Steven James Potirala

Steven James Potirala, age 65, of West Chicago, passed away on February 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Geneva, IL on January 30, 1958, to Walter and Patricia Potirala. Steve graduated from West Chicago High School in 1976 where he met his future wife, Vera Hadri. Steve and Vera were high school sweethearts that became united in marriage on August 14, 1983. Steve loved sports. When he was younger, he excelled at playing baseball and football. As he got older, he especially loved watching the Chicago Bears (even though the Bears still suck). Steve loved being out in nature and with animals, specifically watching the wildlife around his home. Many of Steve’s friends used to call him “Potsy” and Steve often joked that Rock and Roll music was “his religion.” Steve enjoyed making puzzles and playing games like darts, horseshoes, and poker. He was a jack of all trades and master of many. Steve was an amazing cook and chef and owned Turner Junction Restaurant in West Chicago with his loving wife Vera. He was a great husband, the best father, and a true family man who loved his family dearly.

Steve is survived by his wife, Vera; children, Sabrina Potirala (Kyle Wiersbe) and Brandon Potirala; brothers, Daniel Potirala and Michael Potirala; sisters, Victoria Potirala and Valerie (Dave) Radke; grand puppies, Arya and Bear; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whom he adored.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Potirala; sisters, Katherine (Robert) Schroeder, Suzanne Palmere, and Sandra Olson.

Visitation services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. & Main Street) West Chicago. Eulogies beginning on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glen Oak Cemetery.
