Robert Lemon

January 3, 1948 — April 28, 2023

Robert Lemon

On Friday, April 28th, Robert Lemon, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 with his family by his side. Bob was born on January 3, 1948, to Stanley and Harma Lemon and grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in Rudyard near the Kinross (later named Kincheloe) Air Force base, where his father was stationed.

Bob was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served as a Boy Scout camp counselor and later in life as an assistant scoutmaster.

Bob graduated from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI with a degree in education. He taught English and Mathematics, or Arithmetic, as he would say. He would come to West Chicago to teach Arithmetic at the High School in 1971 and taught there until his retirement in 1999. During a sabbatical, he returned to Northern Michigan University to complete his master’s degree, where he met his wife of 43 years, Sharon. Bob was passionate about teaching Arithmetic, teaching Algebra, and Geometry, for which he will forever be fondly remembered by his students. He was a golf coach at West Chicago Community High School and taught adult computer classes at the College of DuPage.

Bob loved camping, golfing, and playing the guitar. Later in life, he would take up playing the banjo. He also enjoyed computers and ran a website of local news in West Chicago from the early days of the internet called WeGo Web.

Bob was raised in the Methodist church of his parents and later was baptized and converted to Roman Catholicism during college at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette, MI. He would later endure four years of Lutheran confirmation with his kids and occasionally attended Trinity Lutheran in West Chicago with the family.

Bob was active in the West Chicago Community, serving on the planning commission as well as the school boards of District 33 and 94. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and involved with the Key Club at the High School.

During Bob’s retirement he enjoyed spending time in Hurley, Wisconsin and made many good friends. After retirement, Bob became a self-proclaimed political wonk. He loved watching the news and discussing current events.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Stanley (wife Sara) and Becky (husband Andrew), his six grandchildren, Lucy, Henry, Evelyn and Liam, Wyatt, Carson, and his brothers Ted, Dan, and Glen.
