Reverend Birmingham

Reverend Eugene Birmingham, age 82, of Bensenville, formerly of West Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013. He was born on August 1, 1931 in Sycamore, Ohio to Thomas and Leta Birmingham. Gene was the former pastor of 25 years at St. Michael's United Church of Christ and associate pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ. He was very active in many organizations including the Addison Township Democratic Organization, Chicago Democratic Organization, West Suburban Faith-Based Peace Coalition and many more. Gene was a very giving person who had many enjoyments which included music (Bach to Bruce Springstein) and the Chicago White Sox. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Gene is survived by his children, Denise Dawn Kovac, Ronald Lee Steinman and Sheri (Edward) Evans; grandchildren, Rhonda Lynn Steinman, Adam N. Kovacevic and Candice Marie (Tim) Riling; great-grandchildren, Gabriel Wesley Hood, Skylar Elaina Hood, Ryleigh Elise Hood and soon to be born Baby Boy Riling, son and daughter-in-law Katherine Self and Ralph Rush and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 12 noon until 4 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main) West Chicago. Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 10 am until time of memorial service at 11 am at St. Michael's United Church of Christ, 400 W. Washington St., West Chicago. Interment Private. Contributions in Gene's memory may be made to St. Michael's United Church of Christ, 108 Sherman St., West Chicago, IL 60185 or Bensenville Home Society, 331 S. York Rd., Bensenville, IL 60106.
