Paul Allen Olson, formerly of West Chicago IL, was promoted to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the age of 87 in North Aurora, IL. He was the husband of the late Darlene C. (Becker) Olson, who went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2024 after 66 years of marriage.
Paul was born April 14, 1938, to the late Gordon and Lillian Olson in Berwyn, IL, the youngest of four children. His three siblings, Kenneth (Nancy), Grace (Joe) and Marion (Eric) preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy.
Paul leaves the legacy of his sons Donald A. Olson (Debra) of Wheaton, IL, David P. Olson (Jennylynn) of Fulton, CA, Daniel J. Olson (Kristen) of North Bellmore, NY, and Steven D. Olson (Amy) of Batavia, IL; fourteen grandchildren (Aaron, Luke, Katie, Chad, Mary Beth, Peter, Mark, Cole, Emmalynn, Gordon, Elliot, Katherine, Zachary, Alaina); eleven great grandchildren (Henry, Benjamin, Anders, Nora, Mia, Elijah, Finnegan, Maezi, Adeline, Eleanor, and Annalynn plus three more due in the next few months).
Paul grew up in a Christian home and was introduced to Christ in his early years. His faith took on deeper meaning in his late 20s through several difficult experiences. During that time he grew in what it meant to follow Jesus. All throughout his life he was willing to share with anyone what God had done for him.
Paul worked as an electrician since 1956, but he could build or fix anything. He started his own business called Olson & Associates. Over the years that work expanded to include general contracting. This new venture led him to rename the business Olson & Sons.
In the early 80s, he served as an elder at Christian Fellowship in Elmhurst, IL. Eventually he was brought on as a pastor of the Wheaton campus and served there for 10 years. Following that he worked with his sons in their electrical businesses, but whatever his official title, he always demonstrated a pastor’s heart toward people.
Paul was always eager to serve and meet needs. He self-funded mission trips to Mexico and a dozen trips to Haiti, bringing his skills to support local churches in their ministry. He worked in inner city ministries in Chicago IL (Circle Urban Ministries) and Wichita KS (World Impact). He supported and was involved as a mentor at Koinonia House Ministries, a ministry to those impacted by incarceration and their families. Over the years he has helped many families in practical ways, from remodeling to acquiring homes. Paul brought a servant's heart to minister to people and help them in practical ways and pointed people to Jesus along the way.
A service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. There will be visitation with the family from 3 - 6 p.m., immediately before the service. Interment at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago will be on Monday, June 30, 2025, with the procession beginning at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m.
