Mitchell Scott Hickman, age 40, of Warrenville, Illinois, tragically passed away in a car accident on November 13, 2025.
Born in Hoffman Estates in 1985 to Richard and Elizabeth Hickman, Mitchell's childhood was filled with treasured moments with his sisters and cousins, camping with family, and enjoying the outdoors. He also loved playing Nintendo and collecting baseball cards. His love of animals was evident in his affection for his dogs Buster, Abby, and Scout. Mitchell loved sports and participated in baseball, basketball, wrestling, and karate, and shared a special bond with his nephew Josh as a soccer goalkeeper.
As he grew older, Mitchell developed skills in various trades. He also tapped into his creative spirit. His passion for making wire-wrapped gemstone trees became a cherished hobby, showcasing his artistic talent. He cherished every moment spent with loved ones and adored his role as an uncle.
Mitchell was known for his loyalty, a heart of gold, an infectious laugh, quick wit, and a playful spirit of mischief. He was a dedicated son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson, boyfriend, and uncle—an irreplaceable presence in the lives of those he loved. His memory will forever reside in the hearts of family and friends, inspiring kindness and joy.
Recently, Mitchell met his heartfelt partner, Lauren, and was eager to build a future together. They shared adventures, thrifting excursions, trips to the movies, and attended trade shows where Lauren displayed her jewelry and Mitchell showcased his beautiful gemstone trees.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Florence Scheckel, Yvonne and Bobby Hickman; his aunt, Cristi Langreder; his uncles, Bill Dettmann and Russell Hickman; and his cousin, Scott Sheckel.
Mitchell is survived by his parents, Elizabeth Hickman and Richard (Christine Reifel) Hickman; his sisters, Nicole (Derrick) Janssen and Megan (Stiles) Brda; his nephews, Joshua and Caleb Janssen; his grandmother, Pat Scheckel; his aunts and uncles, Chuck and Sue Scheckel, Jim and Sue Will, Mike and Marisa Scheckel, Michele Scheckel, Chris Dettmann, Wally and Dayna Kwak, Mike and Kimberly Wright, Shane and Lisa Hickman; his cousins, Eddie (Sara) Will, Kerry (Clarke) Hosp, Brad Will (Alexandria Salas), Eric (Liz) Scheckel, Kelsey Scheckel, Alexa (Kyle) Carpentier, Grace Scheckel (Joe Prainito), Jason (Amie) Langreder, Courtney (Phil) Becker, Ryan (Ailen) Hickman, Logan (Chanda) Hickman, Mikey Wright, and Abby Hickman; and many other loving family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Mitchell’s warmth, witty humor, and spirit will be greatly missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love and kindness will live on through all those whose lives he touched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont Street (One block north of Washington St. & Main St.) West Chicago. Interment Private.
