Mary Brodt

September 15, 1918 — August 7, 2013

Mary Frances Brodt, 94, a 50-year resident of Winfield and parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church, died Aug. 7, 2013.

She was born Sept. 15, 1918, in Chicago, to Patrick and Frances (Cruise) Mulvihill. She married James C. Brodt on Nov. 23, 1940 and they moved to Winfield in 1955. She was a den mother, a member of St. John's Mothers Club, a leader of Winfield Wonders 4-H, an Art Institute of Chicago volunteer, a Winfield Library trustee, and an editor at Container Corporation in Carol Stream.

She would most like to be remembered for her love of learning, art and music; her concern for peace and justice; and her gratitude to the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of the Cenacle.

She is survived by her children, Kay and Bill Nolan of Winfield, Dick and Ann Brodt of Galesburg and Chris and Jon Hultquist of West Chicago; her son-in-law, Bill Krone of Michigan City, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Maas and Catherine Brodt of Elmhurst; her brother-in-law, Charles Marner of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews and kind and generous friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; three children, Thomas in 1984, Lorraine Sheahan in 1987 and Mary Virginia Krone in 1999; and her brother and sister, Edmund (Agnes) Mulvihill and Kathleen Marner.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at St. John the Baptist Church.
