Marion Zarate

Marion Zarate (Smith), age 93, presently of Romeoville, former lifelong resident of West Chicago, passed away on May 10, 2022. She was born on September 9, 1928, in Geneva, IL to Charles and Evelyn Smith. Marion was united in marriage on May 1, 1954, to Modesto “Mo” Zarate. She loved reading and was a librarian for many years in West Chicago at the West Chicago Community High School and the Public Library. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Harry) Smith, Cary (Laura) Zarate and Penny Zarate; grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley) Zarate, Brittany (Scott) Bluemlein and Michael Zarate; great-grandchildren, Brewyn and Hadley; brother, Richard Smith; sister-in-law Catherine (late Robert) Rzeszotarski; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Evelyn Smith; husband Mo Zarate; daughter, Christine Zarate; brother, Harold (Patricia) Smith, sister-in-law, Jane Rodriguez and brother-in-law, Leon (late Arlene) Zarate.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main) West Chicago. Service at 7:00 p.m. Private burial in Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
