Loghin "Puiu" Sarbu

Loghin “Puiu” Sarbu, age 65, of Wheaton, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. He was born on August 15, 1957 in Tincova, Romania to Loghin and Estera Sarbu. Puiu was united in marriage on June 25, 1983 to Tabita Varvara. Puiu pastored a church in Oravita prior to immigrating to the United States with his family in 1991. Puiu served as Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Aurora and later, Emmanuel Romanian Baptist Church in Melrose Park. He worked with special needs students at Hope Wall Elementary School in Aurora. Puiu loved to read the Bible and sing hymns. He had a large heart and loved to visit and pray with others. His greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Tabita Sarbu; children, Joseph (Jenny) Sarbu, Florin (April) Sarbu, Ema (Will) Chester and Denissa (Luke) Kavanagh; grandchildren, Emma, Abby, Hannah, William, Logan, Lidia, Gabriel, and Elodie; brothers, Trandafir, Nelu, Petrica and Daniel, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the Priveghi (Wake) at 7 p.m. at Romanian Baptist Church of Chicago, 484 E. Northwest Hwy, Des Plaines, IL 60016. Visitation will also be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 9 to 10 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 935 W. Union Ave., Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery, 1209 Warrenville Rd, Wheaton, IL 60189.
