Laurene M. Saylor (nee Higgins) age 92, of Winfield, formerly of West Chicago, and Sun City, CA passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Westbridge of Wheaton.
She was born in Winfield on October 22, 1917. Laurene was married on June 30, 1945 to Thomas W Saylor Sr. She worked as a bookkeeper and account clerk for Crane Company for five years before leaving to join her husband at Winfield Fuel & Material Co. for 25 years as a bookkeeper. Upon her retirement, she moved to California with Tom for 25 years, enjoying plenty of travel and golf. In California, she served as a president and founding member of North Golf Course in Sun City. Laurene and Tom returned to Winfield in 1998 to be closer to their family. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and 3rd order of St. Francis. Upon her return to Illinois, she remained an active member of St. John the Baptist parish in Winfield and participant at the Young at Hearts Club. Laurene is the oldest native Winfield born still residing in Winfield.
She is survived by two children; Thomas Jr. (Bonnie) Saylor of Winfield and Barbara (Hank) Dunlap of Naperville; four grandchildren; Thomas III (Emily) Saylor of Warrenville, Jennifer Saylor of Winfield, Hank Jr. (Glynnis) Dunlap of Glen Ellyn and David (Paula) Dunlap of Naperville; six great-grandchildren; Nathan, Beth, Rachel, Josh and John Dunlap and Addison Saylor.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas W. Saylor Sr.; her brother George Roger Higgins; her father George Francis Higgins and mother Lena J. Higgins (nee Schmidt)
Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 3 to 8 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. Family and friends are asked to meet on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Chapel in Winfield for a 10 am memorial mass.
