John Gallagher

John Michael Gallagher, age 67, of West Chicago, Retired US Army Lt. Colonel, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, IL. He was born in Berwyn, IL on March 28, 1943 to Michael & Bernadine Gallagher. John graduated from Divine Infant Grammar school in Westchester, Fenwick High School in Oak Park and St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN. He was united in marriage on February 3, 1968 to Diane Duvall. John was an accountant and business manager for many years and had a passion for sports. He coached basketball and girls softball for West Chicago High School as well as youth baseball, football, and basketball. John enjoyed many years on the Ambro Dukes softball team with his sons. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Knights of Columbus Fr. Gaffney Council 1555 and American Legion Post 300 of West Chicago. He is survived by his wife Diane of 42 years; three sons; Sean (Janet) Gallagher of Geneva, Rory (Stacey) Gallagher of West Chicago and Bart Gallagher of West Chicago; one daughter Candace (Justin) Racz of North Aurora; six grandchildren; Timothy, Jonah, Sarah, Keeghan, Finn, and Dylan; one sister Patricia (Ron) Galvin; one sister-in-law Judy Duvall; nephews; Randy, Major Kurt Duvall and Michael; nieces; Terry, Kathy, Margie, Mary, Susie and Jenny.
He is preceded in death by his parents and triplet children Patrick, Kelly, and James.
Visitation will be Monday September 6, 2010 from 2 to 8 pm at Norris-Walen-Segert Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago Prayers Tuesday 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mary's Church.
