Jennie Lou Holmes (Fisher), 94, died peacefully at St. Patrick’s Residence, Naperville, IL on August 31, 2025.
Jennie was born in Indianapolis, IN, and lived in Wheaton, Warrenville, Gurnee and Addison, IL. Jennie’s first job was dipping ice cream at Prince Castle in Glen Ellyn. She went to Wheaton High School, class of 1950, where she was the head cheerleader, and where she met her high school sweetheart, Lester Holmes, a star football player. Les and Jennie were engaged in 1953, but soon after Lester was drafted into the Korean war for the entire year. They were married on May 15, 1954. Their wedding song was ‘Tenderly’.
She and Les moved to Addison where they lived for many years and had four children, Larry (Diane) Holmes of Glendale Heights, Cheryl (Bobbie) Holmes of Scottsdale, AZ, Perry Holmes of Denver, Kelly (Leanne) Holmes of Elmhurst.
Jennie worked at Motorola- Schaumburg in customer service for almost 20 years. Jennie was known for her skill in gardening, and having an exceptional yard with lilac bushes, flowering crab trees and beautiful plants. Some of the best memories were at our great backyard pool parties in Addison! She was a great cook, and her kolache cookies were a huge hit during the holidays. She and Les loved their schnauzer dogs, and they loved to dance to Frank Sinatra. Jennie and Les traveled to Florida, Arizona, Colorado and Michigan.
Jennie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Grandchildren: Katie, Ryan (Julia), Jordan (Melissa), Ian (Emily), Max, Shayne, Mitchell and Madison (Jeff Brown). Great grandchildren: Noah, Maggie, Jaxson, Lucas, Hunter, Dalilah, Beckham, Pia, and Rhiannon.
Jennie is survived by her brother Bob Fisher, and niece and nephew, Liz (Brian) Fisher and Chris (Sandi) Fisher. Cousins: Alice Jean Berry, Sally Slavens, Ernest Fisher, Jr., Jack Fisher, David Fisher, all from Indiana.
Jennie Lou was preceded in death by her husband Lester Holmes (2003), Mother and Father, Edith and William Fisher, Aunt Lotta Hinkley-Brown, Aunt Margaret Fisher, Sister-in-law Barb Fisher, her youngest son Kelly Holmes (2017).
Jennie made cherished friendships at every stage of her life. We will never forget the love she brought into our lives. Jennie Lou will be laid to rest at Wheaton Cemetery, next to her sweetheart Lester.
Celebration of Life for Jennie Lou Holmes will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 3pm, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 N. West St., Wheaton, IL
