Eldra P. Rakow

Eldra Pauline Rakow, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026.

Eldra was born on June 15, 1941, in Argo, Illinois. She shared 65 loving years of marriage with her devoted husband, Ronald F. Rakow.

She is survived by her beloved husband Ronald; her son Ronald W. Rakow and his wife Mary; her grandson William; and her son Daniel F. Rakow; and her sisters, Nancy Kerner, Dixie Moore and Debbie Schollmeyer, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Moore.

Eldra dedicated much of her life to caring for others, especially children and individuals with developmental disabilities. She was a passionate advocate and worked closely with the Voice of Care and Marklund organizations, always striving to bring compassion, dignity, and support to those in need.

A faithful and valued member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Chicago, Eldra joyfully sang in the church choir and lovingly shared the weekly children’s sermon, touching the lives of many families through her kindness and faith.

Her love for children also inspired her to establish the Gingerbread House Day Care Center, which she proudly owned and operated for 14 years and went on to teach preschoolers for an additional 19 years at the Trinity Lutheran Preschool. Through her warmth, patience, and nurturing spirit, she became a cherished part of many children’s early lives.

Eldra found great joy in cooking, baking, and gardening alongside her husband Ron. Together they lovingly grew their own vegetables and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and care for family and friends.

Eldra will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family and community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
