Carole 'Carrie' Rennels

Carole Joan “Carrie” Rennels , age 85, a long-time resident of West Chicago, passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018. She was born on February 10th, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to Marian (nee McPherson) and Ernst Dhein. Carrie's childhood residence was in Falls Church, Virginia. She graduated High School and attended Lynchburg College at the age of 15. There she excelled in studies and sports, including being a member of the Women's Basketball team, and Captain of the Field Hockey team. She was also an avid Softball player, and once claimed the Virginia State Table Tennis championship. Carrie was active in church and community, and an early member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. Carrie held several positions in Health and Education, but it was being a loving wife and mother of four boys that Carrie devoted her adult life to. The “1st Lady of West Chicago” during her husband's tenure as Mayor, Carrie carried the title with grace and dignity. A mother to all who entered her door, Carrie took joy in offering a safe haven to many throughout the years. As a resident of Bria Health in Geneva, she was an active member and an inspiration to all.

Carrie is survived by her sons, Michael E., Timothy B. (Amy), Scott A. (Deborah), and Todd A. (Ron Merriott); Grandchildren Jeremy and Kelly Rennels, and Trevor and Brianna Rennels; and two great-grandsons, David J. and Nolan Eugene Rennels and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley Schrock, and husband Gene Rennels.

Visitation Friday October 12th from 3-8 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home , 132 Fremont Street in West Chicago. Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13th at St. Andrew Lutheran Church , 155 N. Prince Crossing Rd., West Chicago. Interment to follow at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago . Luncheon to follow at Pal Joey's. Contributions in Carrie's memory may be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Norris-Segert Funeral Home.
