Arlene Welp Smothers

​ Arlene Rita Welp Smothers , age 79, longtime resident of West Chicago, passed away on May 8, 2018. She was born on March 21, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa to Frank and Rita Welp. Arlene was a dedicated worker for many years as the food service director at the West Chicago Terrace Nursing Home and Winfield Woods Nursing Home. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who enjoyed crossword puzzles and cross-stitching. She loved her family and gave all she could for them.

Arlene is survived by her children, John (Cindy) Smothers, Jeff Smothers, Daniel (Christina) Smothers, Diane Smothers, Doug (Wendy) Smothers and Melissa (Jaroslaw) Mlodzianowski; grandchildren, Jordan, Sarah, Joshua, Jared, Arlene, Stephanie, Jennifer, Lillian, Amanda, Kevin, Doug Jr., Justin, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Matthew Jr., Timothy, Erin, Amber, Emily, Jeffrey, Marek, Jacob, Mya and Patrick; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia, Joyce, Maisie and Gail; brothers, Frank Jr. “Bud”, Thomas, Glen, Greg, James, Paul and Russell; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rita; son, Matthew; granddaughter, Jessica; sisters, Mary and Marilyn.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home & Cremation Services , 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main), West Chicago. Prayers will be on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and proceed to St. Mary’s Church , 164 N. Oakwood Ave., West Chicago where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in West Chicago.
