Sing Yuen “Larry” Kim, age 91, of St. Charles, long time resident of West Chicago, passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at Heritage Manor in Mendota. He was born on October 25, 1927 in Honaunau, Hawaii. Larry served as a Sergeant First Class in the US Army just after WWII and during the Korean War. During his service he was deployed in Europe and was involved with the Berlin Airlift. He was later stationed stateside and retired with honors after many years of service.
Larry worked as an Electronic Technician for over 40 years starting at the Elgin Watch Factory and continued with the company throughout its many different owners. Larry was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 300 of West Chicago. He loved gardening, fishing, golfing, bowling and especially loved spending time with his family.
Larry was united in marriage to Jean Adamson, on March 20, 1959. They enjoyed 54 years together until her death in 2013. Larry is survived by his children, Ginny Kim of Sycamore, Patty (Mark) Yep of Geneva and Kyle (Patty) Kim of Mendota; grandchildren, Jacklyn (Mark) Nolan, Rob Yep (Claudia Tapia), Karen Steadman, Matt Yep (Hildee Nave), Nick Yep (Valerie Gingrey), Nathaniel Kim and Allyson Kim; great-grandchildren, Summer, Liam, Brianna, Emily, Diego, Kathy, Cain, Roman and Luke; sister, Virginia “Ginny” (Terry) Francour; and nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jean.
Memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21, 2019 from 3:00 p.m-7:00 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St. and Main) West Chicago. A service will take place at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with military honors to follow.
